Virtual Mental Health First Aid Course.

Course Duration
The course is 12 hours of content which can be split up into two consecutive days, two non-consecutive days (as long as they are completed within 4 weeks) or four 3 hour segments (again, completed within 4 weeks).
Course Objectives
MHFA Basic is intended for adults interacting with adults (18 years and older). This course focuses on the four most common mental health disorders including substance related, mood related, anxiety and trauma related, and psychotic disorders. Crisis first aid skills taught in the cases of substance overdose, suicidal behaviour, panic attack, acute stress reaction and psychotic episode. Participants who take this course are well prepared to interact confidently about mental health with their family, friends, communities, and workplaces.
MHFA Canada is a program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). The MHCC collaborates with hundreds of partners to change the attitudes of Canadians toward mental health problems and illnesses and to improve services and support. Over 400,000 people in Canada have been trained in MHFA.
Method of Instruction
- Increased awareness of signs and symptoms of the most common mental health problems
- Decreased stigma related to mental health
- Increased confidence interacting with individuals experiencing a mental health problem or crisis
- Increased help actually provided to individuals in crisis or experiencing a mental health problem
- Successful participants keep the course manual covering everything that was taught and more
- Certification from the Mental Health Commission of Canada
